A DOCTOR who selflessly stopped to help passengers in an overturned car following a horror smash died after being struck by a truck at the scene herself.
Cynthia Ray, 47, died of her injuries following the tragic collision on Wednesday in Detroit.
Michael Eichenorn, a fellow doctor and colleague of Mrs Ray, said: "It's really no surprise to me or any of us that she would have stopped at an accident.
"I was like her Michigan father. It's a terrible loss.
"I've lost friends two or three times in my life. This is a bigger loss than anything I or my wife have sustained."
She was on her way to work at Henry Ford Hospital, where she was an interventional pulmonologist, when the incident took place.
Mrs Ray saw an overturned Jeep and tried to help six teenagers trapped inside.
While she was helping those in the vehicle, a car pulled around a curve and hit her.
